A New Reality TV Show - Tracking Big $$$ in DC (and across the US)
Recently I was watching one of the ubiquitous business news shows and the thought came to me that we should develop a new reality TV show - Tracking Big $$$ in DC. This show would follow the myriad lobbyists around Washington reporting on which Representatives, Senators, and regulators in Federal agencies they visited. I bet that under the Freedom of Information Act, we could even find out what legislation and which regulations are being discussed. Who is leaning on whom about what?? Who is giving $$$ to which politician?
There could be weekly focus themes - "Tracking Big $$$ at DOD", "Tracking Big $$$ in Our Nation's Forests", or "Tracking Big $$$ in Health Care".
Having launched this in DC, dozens of local stations will leap on the opportunity for a new, locally-based, reality TV show in their state capitols.
The only hitch here is who is going to advertise to support this new type of show??
Not big oil, not big AARP, not whichever other interest group with heavy pockets would not want public transparency about government.......
But, perhaps the way to fund it is to set up a website where viewers can donate a single $ for a good report on an issue of interest. Or, for a really stupendously good report, viewers might donate $5.
This could be a tidal wave.
